37-month winning drought broken
RICKSHAWSHADOW

IT'S been a long time coming, but Robert Dixon finally broke his winning drought at Globe Derby yesterday.

Dixon was triumphant with Rickshawshadow, which broke her maiden at her 17th start.

Dixon's previous victory came via Warrawees Shadow, which scored at the same venue on October 4, 2022. Warrawees Shadow is a half-brother to Rickshawshadow.

"It was very nice to get another win," Dixon said. "It's been a long time coming.

"It's been a little over three years since I had a win, so I was due.

"This filly would have to be the unluckiest horse at Globe Derby I reckon as she has been consistent with five seconds and a couple of thirds.

"She's also had her issues along the way too. All sorts of things have gone wrong for both of us, but hopefully that's turned around."

Driven by Corey 'Flying Mullet' Johnson, Rickshawshadow was eased away from barrier six to be settled three-back in the running line as Laziest led from gate two.

Weaved through traffic around the home turn, the daughter of Major Secret unleashed a scintillating sprint to score by two-and-a-half metres from the pacemaker.

Stars Legacy was four metres away third as the winner rated 2:02.8 over 1800 metres.

"I was confident she would put in a good run, but had my doubts she could win from barrier six," Dixon said. "Corey drove her a treat and got the job done.

"I've nominated her for Saturday night and she should draw alright due to preferential conditions, so we'll see how she goes."
