84-year-old trainer's patience rewarded
PATIENCE has paid off with enigmatic trotter Majestic Legend.
Racing consistently without producing his best, Majestic Legend broke a 12-month drought from the winners' circle with his success at Globe Derby yesterday.
Thrilled to see the squaregaiter register an overdue victory, 84-year-old trainer Peter Borelli is hopeful Majestic Legend can "keep the ball rolling" this campaign.
"It's been a long time between drinks, but he got there," Borelli said. "He's been going around alright, but has done a few things wrong and had no luck either.
"Yesterday he put it all together and did the job I expected.
"I thought he had class on the others, he just needed to trot to win, I even told Michael (Smith, driver) he would sit in the 'death' and win."
Caught three-wide from barrier six, Majestic Legend was sent forward to settle outside the leader, Southwind Chloe.
With the pair breaking clear of the pack, Majestic Legend reached the front in the shadows of the post to score by a metre from Southwind Chloe.
Countess Crusoe was 45 metres away third in 2:05.5 over 2230 metres.
"I'm very happy to see him put it all together," Borelli said. "I'll put him again next Monday and see how he goes."
