Age no obstacle for top pacer
AGE is proving no obstacle for top pacer Max Delight.
A handy fifth in the recent Queensland-based Inter Dominion Final, Max Delight returned to the winners' circle at Club Menangle on Saturday night.
Working to the lead from barrier 10, the nine-year-old covered the mile in 1:48.9 - just a tenth of a second outside his best time.
Max Delight only registered his personal best earlier this year!
"He's going great the old fella," trainer David Aiken said. "He never puts in a bad run and is just an old marvel.
"After the Inter I planned to give him 10 days off, but he was going crazy in the paddock and I thought he was going to hurt himself, so I started working him again after four days."
With Will Rixon in the cart, Max Delight cruised to a five-metre win from Horn Player, with Ardens Ace three metres away third.
"He's pulled up in terrific shape and is ready to go again," Aiken said. "I'll put him around next Saturday night, then give him a trial as we aim towards the Len Smith Mile on September 6."
