All hail the King!
ALL Hail the King!
Just as he has for the past few years, Ryan Hryhorec has dominated another trotters' feature.
In 2022 Hryhorec became the first trainer in the nation to complete a clean sweep of a state's Trotters' Cups before being a regular on the dais in 2023.
Hryhorec then won four Cups in 2024, and six this season, including the Fred Jones, Kadina, Gawler Hambletonian, Kapunda and Strathalbyn Trotters' Cups.
Hryhorec's sixth Cup triumph was registered at Globe Derby last night when he prepared Phoebe Onyx to capture the South Australia Trotters' Cup at Globe Derby.
"I've been fortunate to have had a bit of success in the Cups in recent years," Hryhorec said. "It helps when you've got the stock.
"This year we've had another great run and to win the main Cup last night was a tremendous result.
"I gave each of my runners a good chance depending on what run they got, and as it turned out, things went Phoebe's way."
Driven by Gaita Pullicino, Phoebe Onyx led from three before being eased to take a trail behind his stablemate, Aldebaran Dexta.
Finishing well along the sprint lane, the son of Wishing Stone reclaimed the front in the shadows of the post to score by a neck from the pacemaker.
All The Trix, which travelled two-back along the pegs, was five metres away third in 2:05.2 for the 2645-metre stand.
"To think earlier this year he was all but retired," Hryhorec said. "He'd done well, but I did have thoughts on whether he'd had enough.
"I decided to give him another prep and he's come back and won the Cup at his second start.
"There is a $25,000 race suitable for him in a few weeks, so I will aim him at that now and see how he goes."
