Another Blue Riband double
CHAMPION horsewoman Emma Stewart has rounded out another Blue Riband double.
In a magnificent training feat, Stewart captured last night's South Australia Oaks at Globe Derby to match her SA Derby triumph at the same venue on October 26.
Just last weekend, Stewart completed a successful trip across Bass Strait to secure the Tasmania Derby and Oaks with Kingman and Waterfront.
Thanks to Showsomejoy matching Meteor Moth's SA Derby victory, it is the fifth time Stewart has notched a state Derby/Oaks double in a season.
In 2017 Stewart won Victoria's classics with Our Little General and Miss Graceland, before repeating the dose in 2021 via Act Now and Ladies In Red and again last season with Petrecca and Sweet Bella.
"We always have large numbers of young horses, so races like the Derbys and Oaks are the focus," Stewart said. "To enjoy the success we have in those races is amazing and particularly satisfying for our owners.
"Last night's win was all the more pleasing as, not only do we always enjoy having horses race in South Australia, this filly is largely owned by local interests."
Driven to perfection by Gaita Pullicino, Showsomejoy was promptly angled away from the pegs from her inside of the second row draw to test the leader, Elusive, from the 'death seat'.
Powering her way to the front along the home straight, the daughter of Art Major scored by a metre-and-a-half from Elusive, with Quick Dip four-and-a-half metres away third.
"That was a solid run from her and she did it well," Stewart said. "She's a pretty nice filly which has gotten better as the season has gone along.
"She won the Group One Vicbred Final seven weeks ago and we felt she would be too strong tonight."
Rating 1:56.4 over 1800 metres, Showsomejoy took her record to an impressive seven wins and three placings from 11 starts for earnings of $134,996.
