Another draft of gems from Karnup
KARNUP Racing has grown to be a major force on the WA breeding scene in recent seasons and will present another strong draft, spearheaded by a brother to 2025 APG Final fancy Ideal Beach.
The leading nursery dominated the 2024 Perth sale, selling three colts for $100,000 or more, including the $160,000 top priced youngster by American Ideal from Anna Faye.
The next colt also by American Ideal from Coopers Beach, sold for $130,000 and the third colt a son of Poster Boy and Falcons Gem was knocked down for $100,000.
The 2023 WA Breeders of the Year have bred horses of the calibre of Menemsha, Mighty Ronaldo, Swingband, Typhoon Tiff and Bet The House to name just a few.
The Lindsays will offer 13 youngsters at the 2025 Perth Yearling Sale on Sunday featuring close relatives of most of the above horses.
Lot 352 is a brother to Ideal Beach, which was an impressive winner at his debut on February 18 in a heat of the APG colts sale classic at Gloucester Park.
“He’s just perfect. A very athletic colt,” Trevor Lindsay said.
His dam, unraced Somebeachsomewhere mare Coopers Beach, has produced four winners from four foals.
She is a half-sister to five winners, including Australasian Breeders Crown winner Devil Dodger (1.50.8, $724K) and Group One placegetter The Devils Own (1.48, $508K).
They also have Lot 334, a brother to last’s season APG Sales Classic winner The Bettor Side, by Downbytheseaside from WA Oaks runner-up Bettor Boa. He is a strong colt with a real presence about him.
The Lindsays bred and raced Bettor Boa, which won 10 races and $119,000.
“Bettor Boa is out of the first filly we bought from New Zealand, Miss Anaconda,” Lindsay said.
“Bettor Boa gave us a lot of fun on the track. She ran a big race in the Oaks and she went on to beat the three-year-old fillies record at Gloucester Park by a fair margin.
“And it looks like she is going to continue it on as a broodmare.”
Lot 356 is a striking colt by record-breaking first season sire Poster Boy from NZ-bred mare Falcons Gem and is a half-brother to Two-Year-Old Westbred Final winner Menemsha (P2,156.7, $271K) and Village Kid Sprint winner Bettors Gem (1.54.6, $103K), the dam of Swingband.
Falcons Gem is a half-sister to Chariots Of Fire winner Ebony Gem (1.56.9, $355K) and Victoria Derby winner Rare Gem (1.52.6, $215K).
The pick of the Karnup Racing fillies could be Lot 464, a big, strong bay filly by the exciting Always B Miki and the first foal of Alta’s Angel (1:58.4), a daughter of the crack racemare Centrefold Angel.
The winner of $237,348, Centrefold Angel totted up 14 wins, including the Diamond and Dainty’s Daughter Classics and the WASBA Breeders Stakes.
Centrefold Angel is represented at the sale by Lot 307, a bay colt by the Art Major horse Renaissance Man, a Derby and NSW Sires Stakes champion and successful colonial-bred stallion.
