Another feature at their mercy
ANOTHER South Australian feature is at the mercy of power couple Clayton Tonkin and Emma Stewart.
Regular cross-border raiders during the past decade, Tonkin and Stewart have dominated SA's key events with phenomenal ease.
Since 2015 HRSA has conducted 42 races offering prizemoney of $50,000 or more, with the Victoria duo winning 18.
Of the 42, however, Tonkin and Stewart have only contested 21, giving them an astonishing strike rate of 85.7 per cent in SA's richest races.
Tonkin and Stewart's haul includes all three of The Allwood Finals in 2019, '20 and '21 - the only $100,000 events in the state since the 2018 SA Cup, which they also won with Shadow Sax!
The pair have also won the likes of SA's Derby and Oaks, and a host of Southern Cross Finals, along with other supporting features.
As for the next time-honoured race destined to head to Victoria, it is Saturday night's St Leger at Globe Derby.
Stewart and Tonkin will be represented by promising youngster Captain Perfect, which is a $1.90 favourite despite being first-up from a spell.
Closely-related to Treasure, which secured the 2021 State Of Origin Final at Globe Derby, Captain Perfect hasn't raced since winning in Melton on December 21.
The son of Captaintreacherous recently won a trial in 1:59.4 over 2240 metres.
Predominantly owned by SA interests, Captain Perfect will begin from barrier three with Wayne Hill in the cart.
"He has come up really well and this race is an ideal starting point for his campaign," Stewart said. "We are happy enough with the draw and expect him to be very hard to beat."
