Another major for classy filly

CAPTURING her second major just moments ago, classy filly Sahara Breeze will continue to follow the feature circuit for the remainder of the season.

Successful in an Australian Pacing Gold Bullion Final last May, the three-year-old added to her impressive record by securing the $150,000 Vicbred Super Series Final.

Naturally thrilled with Sahara Breeze's performance, co-trainer Gary Quinlan revealed his plans for the daughter of Captaintreacherous.

Quinlan prepares his team with his wife, Debbie.

"We'll give her a few days off now, then get her ready for the Victoria Oaks in three weeks," Quinlan said. "After that she has the Breeders' Crown, which will see her out of the season.

"She's done a terrific job this year, and while she still has some big races to go, I think she will benefit greatly from a long spell after the Crown."

Driven by Chris Alford, Sahara Breeze began quickly to lead from the pole before being eased to take a trail behind the undefeated Sweet Bella.

Finishing strongly along the sprint lane, Sahara Breeze regained the front in the shadows of the post to score by a metre from Sweet Bella.

Defending champion Joyful was three-and-a-half metres away third.

"She had a few little issues before her semi, but still did well to finish second," Quinlan said. "This week she brightened right up and I knew she was back to where we wanted her to be.

"I was pretty confident she was ready to win, but you can never get too confident in these races."

Rating 1:53.6 over 2240 metres, Sahara Breeze took her tally to eight wins and four seconds from 16 starts for a bankroll of $193,415.
