Another SA-owned pacer wins interstate major
FRESH after a large group of South Australian owners enjoying feature glory interstate, another 'Croweater' has won a cross-border major.
A fortnight ago a syndicate of primarily SA interests enjoyed a treble in Melton, with two of the wins coming in $150,000 events.
Following their heat victories in Bendigo, Loucosso and Degarmea Teale proved too good in the Melton-based APG Finals.
Closer to home, the same syndicate was successful with Captain Perfect at Globe Derby, giving them four wins for the evening.
Fast forward to last Saturday night and prominent SA businessman Gary Crocker was basking in the limelight following Beachbabe Crocker's triumph at Albion Park.
Breaking her maiden in the process, Beachbabe Crocker captured the $50,000 Breeders' Classic.
The exceptionally-bred filly had been among the placegetters during five of her previous seven starts.
"It was great to see her get a win on the board," Crocker said. "She'd been knocking on the door and finally it opened for her.
"Any win is a good win, but she picked a great time to break her maiden."
Driven by Angus Garrard, Beachbabe Crocker enjoyed the run of the race behind her Chantal Tuprin-trained stablemate, Stripes, which led from barrier seven.
Gaining a 'saloon passage' along the inside, the daughter of Somebeachsomewhere reached the front in the last stride to score by a neck.
Ourbeachgirlmaywyn was four metres away third in 1:55.6 over 1660 metres.
