Attorney lays down the law to beat Larry
District Attorney

EXCITED is the understatement of the year according to Blake Caruana.

After watching his classy pacer District Attorney produce a surprise upset last night, Caruana declared there are no fitting words in his vocabulary to describe how he and his father, Ted, are feeling.

Having his second start for genius horseman Jason Grimson, District Attorney upstaged superstar pacer, Leap To Fame, to capture the $52,000 Garrards Patron's Purse in Redcliffe.

A fortnight ago in his Grimson debut District Attorney won the $50,000 Treuer Memorial in Bankstown.

District Attorney's victory ended Leap To Fame's winning streak at 13, with Larry's sequence including the Inter Dominion, A G Hunter Cup and Miracle Mile.

"We can't believe it," Caruana said. "I was screaming that loud along the home straight and after the line that they probably heard me in Redcliffe all the way from Victoria.

"I felt we could give him a shake, but never in my wildest dreams did I think we could beat Leap To Fame

"Three starts ago Leap To Fame won the Miracle Mile while three starts ago we were getting beaten in Melton!

"Whatever Jason's doing, he's doing a good job by making a good horse a better horse and taking him to another level...we couldn't be happier."

With Jack Gallagher in the cart, District Attorney was caught in the 'death seat' from barrier three before being urged to the lead ahead of Leap Of Fame and then being eased to trail the $1.04 favourite.

Angled away from the pegs at the top of the home straight, the son of Courage Under Fire regained the front in the shadows of the post to score by a head.

Don Lou was 16-and-a-half metres away third in 1:55.7 over 2280 metres,

"What a magnificent run," Caruana said. "Speed has always been his greatest asset but now he's gotten stronger too.

"He worked at both ends and still hit the line hard, which was awesome to watch."
