Attorney lays down the law
PROMISING youngster District Attorney laid down the law in Warragul yesterday.
Driven to perfection by his 'best friend' Celeste Towers, District Attorney captured the Traralgon Cup.
Thrilled with the victory, co-trainer Ted Caruana was quick to praise the three-year-old and Towers for their performances in the feature.
Caruana prepares the Australian Pacing Gold purchase, which he also owns, with his son, Blake.
"We've deliberately been taking our time and nursed him as the breed gets better with age," Caruana said.
"We have only given him 13 starts and he's only been out of the placings once, which was in a Derby heat and we later found out he was crook.
"Celeste has developed an amazing connection with him to the point where there are mornings Blake and I can't catch him and then he'll walk right up to her.
"He went terrific yesterday and Celeste rated him perfectly."
Leading throughout from the pole, District Attorney cruised to a 12-and-a-half metre win from Post Game, with Rocking Bugatti 10 metres away third.
Rating 1:56.7 over 2210 metres, the son of Courage Under Fire took his tally to five wins, six seconds and a third.
With no major plans in mind, Caruana will continue to ease the colt through the grades.
"I'm not sure what's next," Caruana said. "He'll likely return to the country for another race or two before looking at a metro race."
