Aussie horseman dominates Minnesota meeting

EX-PATRIOT Australian horseman Chris Scicluna dominated yesterday’s Running Aces meeting in Minnesota.

Along with a driving double, Scicluna registered a training treble.

Scicluna opened his account with Aussie-bred pacer Firenglow, which covered the mile in 1:55.3.

The son of Courage Under Fire won 11 races in Victoria before joining Scicluna in America.

“He’s been a good buy and is enjoying racing here,” Scicluna said. “I was very pleased with the way he found the line.”

Scicluna then prepared Keep On Rocking to complete an effortless win in the main event on the card with Pat Berry in the sulky.

Never seriously challenged, the son of Rocknroll Hanover stopped the clock in 1:52.

Scicluna drove another Aussie – Major Pocket – to finish fourth behind his stablemate.

In March 2019 Keep On Rocking became the fastest Australian-bred pacer when he scored in 1:48.2 at Dover Downs.

“I could not be happier with him,” Scicluna said. “He’s been phenomenal since we brought from Australia and I’m hoping he can make his way into some of the better races later in the year.”

Scicluna then partnered former New Zealand mare Last Flight In to a soft 1:54.1 triumph.

“After she found the front she was never going to be run down,” Scicluna said. “She hit the line with plenty in the tank and could have gone quicker if needed.”

Scicluna narrowly missed a training quartet after My Kiwi Lady, which he also drove, finished second in the Mares’ Open Pace.
