Aussie mare causes upset at The Meadows

FORMER Australian mare Hedges Avenue worked out a cozy pocket trip, then roared through the sprint lane to spring a 14-1 upset in last night’s feature at The Meadows.

Always Giggling, the 4-5 favourite, took the field through three-quarters in a reasonably comfortable 1:24.4.

But when Brady Brown pointed Hedges Avenue inside, the daughter of Rock N Roll Heaven was the fresher mare, downing Always Giggling by a half length in 1:53.1.

Greenhilldebatable completed the ticket.

J.L. Adams trains the winner for Martin Valentic, John Bednarski and Karl Malik.

Hedges Avenue was sold to American interests last February and left her native land with 12 wins and 21 placings from 71 starts.

The seven-year-old’s victories include a 1:51.2 triumph at Club Menangle.

Elsewhere on the card, Tony Hall and Chris Shaw each piloted three winners.
