CAPTAINS MISTRESS

BOOM mare Captains Mistress is favoured to create history at Club Menangle on Saturday night.

Thanks to her dominating victory in last night's Chariots Of Fire at the world class venue, Captains Mistress sealed a berth in the famed Miracle Mile.

After receiving barrier four in the $1million Grand Circuit event, the Jason Grimson-trained daughter of Captaintreacherous was listed as the $2.60 equal favourite with champion pacer Leap To Fame.

Winner of the 2024 edition, Leap To Fame has drawn gate five.

Both move closer to the pegs once the emergencies are taken out of the equation.

Success in Australasia's premier sprint will see Captains Mistress become the first four-year-old mare on the honour roll since the Group's One inception in 1967.

Captains Mistress will also be just the fourth triumphant mare, following from Robin Dundee in the inaugural edition, Norms Daughter in 1996 and Baby Bling in 2013.

As for four-year-old winners, there are only five - Mount Eden, Westburn Grant, Christian Cullen, Have Faith In Me and Catch A Wave.

Driven by Cameron Hart during her latest victory, Captains Mistress worked to the lead from barrier three before cruising to a stylish seven-metre win from Final Deadline, with Sinaloa a metre-and-a-half away third.

Undefeated from six starts for Grimson, Captains Mistress covered the mile in 1:49.8 to become just the fourth mare to capture the Chariots Of Fire.

Lombo Rapida was the ground breaker in 2000, before Oaxaca Lass and Innocent Eyes followed suit in '03 and '06.

“This was pretty special and to drive a horse like this is such a privilege,” Hart said. “She gives me a feeling unlike many other horses...she’s pretty special, that’s for sure.

“I’m certain she will make her presence felt in the Miracle Mile. It’s an exciting week to come.”
