Can undefeated pacer match famous grandfather?
COURAGE UNDER FIRE

WHETHER he reaches the grand heights of his famous grandfather remains to be seen, but exciting pacer Sirlou is certainly heading in the right direction.

Having just his fourth start when contesting yesterday's Cobram Pacing Cup, Sirlou proved too strong for his more experienced rivals.

With Abbey Turnbull holding the reins, the gelding rated 1:59.9 over 2170 metres to remain undefeated as Big Bad Ossie and Lils Nightmare filled the placings.

Prepared by Turnbull's father, Craig, Sirlou is from Hot Blooded Woman, which is a daughter of former champion, Courage Under Fire.

One of the greatest pacers produced in the modern era, Courage Under Fire was unbeaten during his first 24 starts - Australasia's second longest winning streak!

San Simeon holds the record with 29 straight victories, with Lucky Creed and Maori's Idol also stringing together 24 wins.

Thrilled with Sirlou's progress, Craig is positive the four-year-old can continue his transition to the top.

"We think he has quite a big future," Craig said. "Horses just don't do what he has already done a couple of times in his races without being pretty good.

"He's a late starter purely because his owners gave him time to get over some growing pains and I think they are going to be rewarded for their patience.

"All staying well with him, I can't see any reason why he won't get right through the grades.

"We're going to test him in the Four-Year-Old Bonanza in a few weeks and I'm really interested to see how he goes.

"He's got so much high speed, the quicker they go the better, and I'm looking forward to watching what he can do when we sit him up and sprint home."
