Cautiously confident!
HE'LL head into tonight's Australian Pacing Gold Final with two of the main chances, but that doesn't mean Tyrone Abela is oozing confidence.
In fact, the respected horseman is adopting a cautious approach to his prospects in the $50,000 Melton-based feature for colts and geldings.
Abela will be represented by Jays All That and Franco Americano, which head TAB Fixed Odds at $2.40 and $3.
"Being babies you never really know how they will go," Abela said. "I'm hoping they behave and do everything right.
"I've got them feeling as good as they can. now it is up to them to put their best feet forward."
Franco Americano has drawn to search for the lead from the pole, while Jays All That will begin from barrier five with Jodi Quinlan in the cart.
"There is not a lot between them, but they are different in their ways," Abela said. "Franco has good gate speed, so can take advantage of the draw.
"He also races best when he's setting the speed.
"The other fella does whatever he wants, but has a good finishing sprint.
"He'll make up his own mind as to what he will do on the night, so Jodi will just be along for the ride to a certain degree."
Abela then has debutante Heavenly Glow in the fillies' decider, with the two-year-old drawn barrier two.
"She has had a couple of goes at nearly getting to the races, but then copped setbacks," Abela said. "So this will be the first time she actually turns up!
"She is a progressive type which has got a lot to learn, but she shows potential.
"I don't think she will trouble the main two, but can run third if she does everything right."
