Celebrating birthday with a win
ALREADY enjoying his birthday in style, part-owner Mark Delre had an extra reason to celebrate yesterday.
A passionate harness racing participant and sponsor, Delre celebrated the anniversary of his birth while relaxing in Italy with his wife Kim.
Closer to home, Delre's latest promising youngster Mighty Bling helped with the festivities by winning in Kilmore last night.
"It was a well-timed win," part-owner and trainer Vince Dicocco said. "He got the money on Mark's birthday, so it's a double celebration.
"Mark was watching from Italy, so he was pretty happy.
"We're all happy with him and think he has a bit of a future ahead of him.
"He's won his last two now, following a second, from four starts, so he's already doing a nice job."
With Jack Laugher holding the reins, Mighty Bling was eased away from barrier two to be settled three-back in the running line as Segui Le Stella led from the pole.
Forced four-deep leaving the back straight, the son of Bling It On unleashed a solid sprint to grab the lead in the final stride, scoring by a neck from Im All Business.
Segui Le Stella battled on to be a half-neck away third in 1:55.7 over 1690 metres.
"He's got a bit of speed and can stick a bit," Dicocco said. "He has pulled up fine this morning, but I will give him a little break now.
"He's had a long campaign as he has been up for about five months, so he will have two or three weeks off for a freshen up and we'll get going again."
