Champion's baby sister makes perfect debut
SHE'S got a long way to go before any comparison can be made to her famous siblings, but Senses has certainly started her career in the perfect manner.
Making her debut at Club Menangle today, Senses was a class above her rivals for trainer David Thorn.
Driven by Will Rixon, the two-year-old worked to the lead from barrier three before cruising to a 16-and-a-half metre win from Soho Majestic.
Dynamite Danni was eight-and-a-half metres away third as the winner covered the mile in 1:55.2.
As excited as he is about Senses' prospects, Thorn refused to be drawn into any form of comparison with the filly's relatives - and understandably so!.
By American Ideal, Senses is from top producing mare Lettucereason, making her a half-sister to Leap To Fame, Swayzee and Maximus Red.
"I think she is pretty good, but how good, I honestly don't know," Thorn said. "I certainly wouldn't be thinking about her getting to the same heights as Leap To Fame, Swayzee and Maximus Red at this stage, but it would be nice.
"So far she hasn't set a foot wrong and everything has come easy to her, so all signs are positive.
"We had a look at her as a weanling, liked what we saw and bought her."
Yet to select Senses' next start, Thorn has set his sights on the New South Wales Breeders' Challenge later in the season.
"I haven't got anything picked out, but will find another race in two or three weeks," Thorn said. "She is eligible for the Breeders' Challenge in six or so weeks, so she will go in that then we'll put her in a paddock to keep growing and maturing."
