SHEETWEB WEAVER

A CHANGE of environment is working wonders for Sheetweb Weaver.

Winless from 10 starts last season, Sheetweb Weaver hadn't scored since his victory in Cobram on May 11, 2023.

Purchased by New South Wales horseman Bruce Birch several months ago, the trotter is unbeaten from three outings since the stable change.

"He's always been a nice horse which is why I bought him," Birch said. "I reckon there had been a couple of big offers for him early on.

"Soundness has been an issue, but I've been working hard on managing that.

"You can't over work him, it's as simple as that.

"I've been bouncing ideas off people like Tim Butt which has helped, I've put flip flops on him, so he doesn't jar up, and I work on sand."

With Birch in the cart, Sheetweb Weaver completed his hat-trick by proving too good at Club Menangle yesterday.

Working to the lead from barrier five, the son of Yankee Spider strolled to a soft 11-metre win from Down Under Earl.

Oh Nova Love was two metres away third in 1:56.5 over 1609 metres.

"He did it quite easily," Birch said. "I didn't even pull the plugs.

"My main aim with him at the moment is the Goulburn Cup on April 13, but I will have to put him around again next Tuesday.

"I didn't really want to race him again, but it would be too big a gap between races if I don't."
