Chasing consecutive Derbys
METEOR MOTH

RECORD-BREAKING horsewoman Emma Stewart is expected to have no trouble adding another Derby to her impressive collection this weekend.

During the past decade Stewart has captured 13 state Derbys, including training the first four across the finish in Victoria's Blue Riband a fortnight ago.

Stewart's haul breaks down to three in New South Wales, one in Queensland, three in South Australia, two in Tasmania and four in Victoria.

"We traditionally have a strong team of young horses, so races like the Derbys are what we aim for," Stewart said. "To enjoy the success we have in those races is amazing and particularly satisfying for our owners."

Fast forward to Saturday night and Stewart will be represented by raging favourite Meteor Moth in the SA Derby at Globe Derby.

Stewart is aiming for consecutive wins in the feature having secured last season's edition with Our Vinnie.

Triumphant in a heat last week, Meteor Moth has drawn to lead throughout from barrier two.

To be driven by Allan McDonough, the son of American Ideal is a $1.80 favourite, with Dee Roe considered the main danger at $3.

Also victorious in a qualifier, Dee Roe will begin from gate four for trainer Aaron Dunn.

"We've drawn very well and it is hard seeing him being beaten," Stewart said. "He's still got to get out there and get the job done, but we're pretty confident with him."
