Chasing more interstate success
NO STRANGER to winning features at Club Menangle, Victorian horseman Adam Kelly is back for more.
In fact, Kelly will return to the world class venue to contest tonight's Tatlow Stake with Showmethetanlines, which has already tasted glory around the 1400-metre circuit.
Making his debut for Kelly last May, Showmethetanlines captured the Group Three Sapling Stake in 1:52.2 over a mile.
The son of Downbytheseaside had previously won his only other start in Addington on January 31.
Given a short break following his interstate trip, Showmethetanlines was "below his best" although third upon return in Melton on June 28 before being sent back to a paddock.
"I've got a reasonable opinion of him," Kelly said. "It is a shame he missed The Protostar slot race in Brisbane in July, but he was definitely below his best, so I turned him out for three months.
"He has come back a better horse and seems very good within himself, so I'm looking forward to him going around on Saturday night."
As for his pending assignment, Showmethetanlines has drawn barrier nine over 1609 metres.
To be driven by Bailey McDonough, the colt has won his two trials, including at Menangle last week.
"The draw isn't ideal, but it is what it is," Kelly said. "There are some nice types and strong form in the race, but he's had two solid trials and has come along nicely since trialling last week.
"He is as forward as he can be without racing and hopefully that will be enough to get him over the line."
Enjoying a working vacation in New South Wales, Kelly has also nominated "a couple for next Monday's meeting at Menangle".
"I have been up here for about 10 days," Kelly said. "I brought half a dozen horses with me and will race them where I can.
"I've obviously got Showmethetanlines in on Saturday night, but I've entered a couple for next Monday's meeting at Menangle as well.
"One is a filly which will be having her first start for me and I think she will go well."
