Chasing prestigious Cup hat-trick
TRAINER of the moment Jason Grimson will be out to extend his recent domination of Victorian open class features this weekend.
Since crossing the Murray from his New South Wales base in November, Grimson has captured the Inter Dominion, Group One Cranbourne Cup at last week's Group Two Bendigo Cup.
Grimson's Cup wins came via Major Meister, which led home a stable quinella in Bendigo as Sicario finished second in his debut for the horseman.
As for the industry's 'Holy Grail', Grimson's success was with I Cast No Shadow, which will spearhead a three-pronged attack in Saturday night's $75,000 Shepparton Cup.
The son of Shadow Play will be joined by Sicario and dual Group One winner, Majestic Cruiser, in an attempt to provide Grimson with a Cup hat-trick.
"Each of them has been working well and will be right in the finish with the right run," Grimson said.
To be driven by Cameron Hart, I Cast No Shadow has drawn to search for the lead from barrier two.
Sicario will begin from the outside of the front row with David Moran in the cart, while Majestic Cruiser and Kate Gath will have to overcome gate 11.
"I Cast No Shadow will be very hard to beat from there," Grimson said. "Sicario and Majestic Cruiser will need a bit of luck from their difficult draws, but they're not out of it either."
