Chasing two slices of history
WEST AUSTRALIAN star Deni Roberts is aiming for two slices of history this weekend.
Engaged in Sunday's Australian Drivers' Championship at Globe Derby, Roberts is attempting to become the first female to capture the series.
Victory will also see Roberts complete an extraordinary double, having captured the Australian Reinswomen's Championship in Tasmania last October.
Tied on 49 points with Queenslander Chloe Butler, Roberts was bestowed the title on count back.
As for her pending quest for glory, Roberts will represent WA alongside 2019 ADC winner, Gary Hall junior.
Overall, a dozen drivers - two from each state - will clash over 10 heats for the honour of the nation's best for 2024.
"This is my first Australian Drivers' Championship and my first time driving at Globe Derby, so I'm pretty excited," Roberts said. "I've had a pretty good year winning the Women's Champs earlier on and it will be good taking on the guys this time."
Adopting a diplomatic approach when asked who will be the toughest opponent, Roberts quickly responded Hall, while also acknowledging the role luck plays in such a tournament.
"They are all wonderful drivers, but I will say Gary to make him feel good," Roberts declared.
"You really need luck with drawing the right horses as it can be the difference between earning good points and having a hard luck story.
"I'm just looking forward to getting to South Australia and doing my best for WA."
