Concession driver recovering from race fall
YOU'D think breaking a few bones would be the worst result from a race fall, but according to concession driver Charli Masotti it's actually not the biggest pain!
Masotti was tipped from the cart during the fourth race in Young earlier this week, which caused several fractures.
Rushed to the local hospital, Masotti was diagnosed with a fractured tailbone and sacrum three and four of her pelvis.
The third and fourth sacral segments are part of the sacrum which is a key bone in the posterior wall of the pelvis.
"I'm a little sore, but pretty good overall," Masotti said. "We were coming up the back straight the last time when racing got tight. We locked wheels and I got flipped out.
"I have a fracture through my tailbone and part of my pelvis, but luckily I didn't require an operation.
"The doctors said the bones haven't moved much, so they should heal by themselves."
As for the 'biggest pain' of her ordeal, Masotti cites being unable to drive as the most upsetting.
"I will be out for about six weeks at this point," Masotti said. "There is no chance I won't be driving again.
"That's the biggest pain of it all, I can't drive for a while, but as soon as I am given the all clear, I will be back as I love it out there.
"For now, I'm hoping I will be mobile enough to get back to working at the stable in the next few days."
