Consistent mare aimed at feature series
RACING in consistent form since returning to the track, Come On Sloopy produced a tough performance at Globe Derby last night.
Sidelined for a year after her unplaced effort in Mildura in December 2023, Come On Sloopy has been among the top three in 16 of her 30 starts this season.
Thanks to her latest victory, the Nick Tardio-trained mare will be given the opportunity to chase a local feature in coming weeks.
"There is a heat and Final series coming up that I will aim her at," Tardio said. "The heats are on Saturday week, so that is the way we will head.
"You don't get many chances to race for that prizemoney here, so we've got to have a shot."
Driven by Lisa Ryan during her latest outing, Come On Sloopy was caught wide from barrier five before being settled outside the leader, Giftedfromtheheart.
Forging her way to the front along the back straight, the daughter of Captaintreacherous staved off a late challenge from Lochinvar Ruler to score by a neck.
In a 'blanket' finish, Roscos Rescue was a half-neck away third.
"She was stood down for a year, but is back and winning now, which is all that matters," Tardio said. "That was another top run from her.
"She's been consistent all along, but her last eight starts have gotten her two wins and six placings.
"If she keeps going like that we'll be more than happy."
