Death, taxes and Hryhorec
ACCORDING to the adage there are two certainties in life....death and taxes.
When it comes to Trotting Cups in South Australia, however, you can add Ryan Hryhorec's dominance to the list of certainties.
In what has developed into a cliché, Hryhorec has been winning trotters' features seemingly at will in recent years.
For example, in 2022 Hryhorec became the first trainer in the nation to complete a clean sweep of a state's Trotters' Cups before being a regular on the dais in 2023.
Hryhorec then won four Cups in 2024, and six this season, including the Fred Jones, Kadina, Gawler Hambletonian, Kapunda and Strathalbyn Trotters' Cups.
Hryhorec's sixth Cup triumph was registered at Globe Derby three weeks ago when he prepared Phoebe Onyx to capture the South Australia Trotters' Cup.
Poised to return to the same venue on Saturday night, Hryhorec has four of the seven runners in the Kevin and Kay Seymour Trotters' Cup.
Hryhorec's 'herd' includes the first three in betting markets - Aldebaran Dexta, Regal Attire and Phoebe Onyx.
"I've got a good hand in it and hopefully it will bring a good result," Hryhorec said. "Dexta and Attire would be the main two chances, but the other two can't be counted out.
"Attire, Phoebe and Ebonys Avenger are off 20 metres, but the race is over 2645 metres, so it gives them plenty of time to get into it.
"That and a small field will help bring those off the back up to the field reasonably fast."
