A FAVOURABLE draw has trainer Scott Ewen feeling confident ahead of Saturday night's Ballarat Cup.

Ewen is poised to contest the $100,000 country feature with popular veteran Bulletproof Boy, which has received barrier three.

With the son of Art Official possessing gate speed, Ewen is positive Bulletproof Boy is capable of leading.

Should Bulletproof Boy find the front Ewen will be instructing driver James Herbertson to maintain the pacermaker's role.

Racing in top form, Bulletproof Boy has won his last three starts, including the Bendigo Cup a fortnight ago.

"I am very happy with that draw," Ewen said. "Given his form and draw, I reckon he deserves to be favourite from there.

"Our aim is to lead and hold it. He rarely gets a chance to be in front, but enjoys it when he leads.

"He definitely gets his chance to notch his biggest win on Saturday night."

Citing Ultimate Vinnie as a threat from barrier two, Ewen rates Mach Dan as the one to beat despite drawing seven - the outside of the front row.

A multiple Group One winner, Mach Dan is noted for his gate speed.

"Mach Dan is a quick beginner but won't be crossing us," Ewen said. "Even though he has drawn wide, he is still the main danger.

"Vinnie got home well in the Bendigo Cup a couple of weeks ago and looked good on the line, so he's got to be respected."
