Drawn to break bridesmaid status
BRIDESMAID during his last three starts, Horn Player has a strong opportunity to become the 'bride' at Club Menangle this weekend.
Racing in ultra-consistent fashion, Horn Player boasts three wins and eight placings from his last 11 outings for trainer Brad Hewitt.
Three of those placings, however, have been seconds during his most recent appearances - all at Menangle.
Poised to return to the world-class venue on Saturday night, the son of Sweet Lou has drawn barrier two, but slots into the pole with the removal of the emergency.
"He's drawn well and is going just as good, so he won't be far away again," Hewitt said. "He's come a long way this season and is staying competitive in open grade.
"At the start of the year he was in the low 60s as a nation rating and now he's racing in metro company.
"I've been more than happy with his starts, it's just that he's been running into a nice one."
To be driven by Hewitt, Horn Player will be sent forward in search of the early lead.
"He has really good gate speed, so we will come out and see what's going one," Hewitt said.
"I'm hoping if can run in the money again he can force his way into the Len Smith Mile in a couple of weeks.
"He's been racing against and beating some of the contenders, so I would say he is pushing for a start already.
"A win or good run this week will certainly help his cause."
