Exciting freshman facing 'biggest test'
EXCITING freshman Rainbow Jester will face his "biggest test" this weekend.
Sent for a well-earned break following his Group Two Foundation Final success at Club Menangle last July, Rainbow Jester is poised to contest Saturday night's Tatlow Stake in Melton.
Boasting six wins from seven starts, Rainbow Jester is no stranger to feature glory south of the border, having secured the Group One Nutrien Final in Melton last April.
Given two trials in recent weeks, the trotter is "in a good place" heading into his pending assignment according to trainer Dennis Day.
"This will be his biggest test," Day said. "The competition is stiff, with the winner and runner-up of both Vicbred Finals in the field.
"There are certainly some nice two-year-olds down there, so we'll see how he fits into it.
"I've given him a couple of trials, nice hit outs, to bring him on and he is in a good place going into this.
"Overall it will be a good experience for him and give us an idea of where he is at."
To be driven by Day, Rainbow Jester has drawn to lead from the pole, which has seen the colt listed as a $2.80 favourite.
Vicbred winner, Commodus, is considered the main danger at $3.20 from the inside of the second row.
"It's a good draw...better there than wide or the back row," Day said. "We'll be looking to making the most of the draw."
