Exciting youngster breaks Australasian record
EXCITING youngster Fate Awaits has ended his debut season with an Australasian record.
In what has been a highly-successful year, Fate Awaits captured a New South Wales Breeders' Challenge Final in 1:50 at Club Menangle last night.
Fate Awaits' time over a mile sliced three-tenths of a second from Bar Room Banta's two-year-old colts' mark set at the world class venue on October 10, 2020.
Lux Aeterna is the only three-year-old to have gone quicker in the southern hemisphere with her 1:49.9 performance at Menangle last October.
The Grant Dixon-trained freshman also secured the inaugural Protostar Slot Race at Albion Park in July, with his record sitting at five wins and three placings from nine starts for earnings of $394,832.
"He has done a top job and is ready for a break now," Dixon said. "He'll spend plenty of time in a paddock to wind down, grow and mature.
"If he comes back as I believe he should we'll be looking at the Derbys with him."
With Dixon in the cart, Fate Awaits enjoyed the run of the race behind the leader before being angled away from the pegs at the top of the home straight.
Unleashing a strong sprint, the son of Always B Miki dashed to a five-metre win from Sanchez, with Hezatreacherous three metres away third.
"He was travelling so well all along and I knew it was just a matter of getting into the open," Dixon said. "I was very happy with the way he hit the line."
Less than an hour later Dixon completed a clean sweep of the colts' and geldings' Finals by winning the three-year-old division with Air Express.
Leading throughout from the pole, Air Express stopped the clock in 1:51.7 as War Dan Buddy and Iron Clad filled the placings.
"That was another good run from him," Dixon said. "He'll also head for a spell before I aim him up at the Chariots Of Fire next season."
Dixon rounded out a treble when superstar Leap To Fame registered a soft 1:52 win over 2300 metres to beat Max Delight and Don Lou.
"I was very relieved to see him do it so easily after having a virus a couple of weeks ago," Dixon said. "He has taken no harm from it and is ready to fly out to New Zealand next Sunday.
"We also got three winners back home at Albion Park, so it has been as good a night as we've ever had."
