Five straight for sharp shooting Western
IN-FORM pacer Wild Wild Western edged by a game but hard-used Dorsoduro Hanover to extend his winning streak to five in yesterday’s Open Handicap Pace at The Meadows.
Dorsoduro Hanover, the three-year-old male Pacer of the Year in 2018, was making only his third start of the season and was forced to go a blistering 25.4-second parked-out opening panel before wresting the lead from Wild Wild Western.
Dorsoduro Hanover had enough in the tank to thwart the outside challengers, but Wild Wild Western and Mike Wilder used the length of the stretch to down him by a neck in 1:49.1, matching the winner’s career best.
Puzzling completed the ticket.
Norm Parker trains Wild Wild Western, a five-year-old son of Western Ideal, which has banked $372,457, for Jacobs Creek Racing, Andrew Altobelli and John Deters.
It was one of six wins on the 12-race card for Wilder, who has collected 12 victories over the last three programs.
Trainer Ron Burke and Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. also enjoyed big Fridays, winning four and three.
