Freshman trotter sets world record
A REAL LEGEND

RISING star trotter A Real Legend put together a legendary performance in just his fifth start as he set a world record in the Ohio Sires Stakes at Northfield Park last night.

In the second of two $55,000 divisions for freshman colts, John Dutton and driver Chris Page raced to the early lead covering the first split in 29.2 seconds.

Just past the quarter pole A Real Legend was sent forward by Don Irvine junior to reach the front and never looked back.

Full of running in the stretch, A Real Legend held off John Dutton to trip the wire in 1:55 to win by a length. Black Magic was third.

Along with being a track record, A Real Legend's time is world record for two-year-old gelded trotters on a half-mile track, with his time slashing four-tenths of a second from The Mighty Hill's mark set at Northfield Park in 2021.

Owned by trainer Rosy Weaver and Heartland Acres, A Real Legend has earned $75,300.

In the first division, Jet Hill led throughout in 1:57 with Kurt Sugg in the cart.

It was Jet Hill's second win from four starts with both victories coming in the Ohio Sires Stakes.

Burton’s Hill was second with Asian Zing finishing third.

Jet Hill is trained by Edward Miller and owned by Serenity Racing Stables.
