Group One win overshadowed by true star of the family!
ANNABELLE STANLEY

HE JUST registered his 10th Group One victory, but Michael Stanley's success was quickly overshadowed by the true star of the family!

Finally breaking a frustrating hoodoo, Stanley captured last Saturday night's Queensland Oaks with Soho Americano.

Rarely without a quality filly in his team, the Victorian trainer had been the bridesmaid in eight Oaks heading into the Blue Riband.

"I had been thinking I'm never going to win an Oaks," Stanley said. "I'd finished second in eight of them before this one.

"Even on Saturday night turning for home I was thinking I'm going to finish second again, but she dug deep and got there just in time."

Driven by Luke McCarthy, Soho Americano worked to the lead early before being eased to receive the perfect trail behind Cool And Classy.

Finishing strongly along the sprint lane, the daughter of American Ideal reclaimed the front in the final stride to score by a neck from the pacemaker.

Captains Mistress was four metres away third in 1:55.1 over 2138 metres.

Despite Stanley's groundbreaking win, his moment was overshadowed by his daughter, Annabelle.

Also undertaking a working holiday with her pony Whatarose, Annabelle was triumphant in the Inter Dominion Pony Trot.

A third generation participant, Annabelle became the family's first Inter Dominion winner!

"It was such an amazing time up there and to win the Inter Dominion Pony Trot is just amazing and something I will never forget," Annabelle said. "I'm so happy and very proud of Rose."

Bred to be an industry participant, the 12-year-old is "extremely focused" on becoming a driver in coming years.

"All I want to be is a driver when I'm older...I have never wanted to be anything else," Annabelle said. "I already drive trackwork for Dad and love it.

"As soon as I am old enough to get my trial license, I will be putting in my application."
