Group One winning mare breaks long drought

UNLUCKY mare Revelstoke broke a long drought from the winners' circle last night.

Making the trip north for last weekend's MacCarthur Mile in which she finished last after galloping, Revelstoke gained some consolation by capturing the Bulli Trotters' Cup at Club Menangle.

As such, the Anton Golino-trained squaregaiter registered her first victory since securing the Group One Vicbred Super Series Final as a three-year-old on December 31, 2022.

Revelstoke's 23 starts between victories netted eight seconds and three thirds for earnings of $55,665.

"She is a nice handy mare in her own right, but the reality is, she is just below the top ones," Golino said. "She hadn't won for quite a while, but she has run second in a Group One and a Group Two.

"She's also had the misfortune of running second behind Queen Elida a few times.

"We've been happy with her this whole time, she's just been unlucky and was busting to get another win on the board."

Driven to perfection by Nathan Jack, Revelstoke overcame a 10-metre handicap to account for Leaf Stride and Funky Monkey in 2:00.5 over 2300 metres.

To be given an easy few days upon her return to Victoria, the daughter of Quaker Jet will then be aimed at the Matriarch Trot in Melton on June 22.

"There are no real big plans for her, just find the suitable races," Golino said. "The Matriarch is for four and five-year-old mares, so it is an ideal target for her."
