Gunslinger outguns opposition
WHETHER he did or not, my old man would claim "Told Ya" after the result of pretty much anything was finalised.
In the case of Soho Gunslinger, trainer Ricki Alchin can legitimately proclaim the "told ya" motto following last night's Club Menangle meeting.
Speaking during an exclusive National Trotguide interview earlier in the week, Alchin all but declared the three-year-old a certainty in Breeders' Challenge Eastern Region Final.
"I've been happy with his work and expect him to be too good," Alchin declared. "A few in the field have good form, but they will want to be on their game to beat Gunslinger."
Well, as you have probably figured, Soho Gunslinger was too quick on the draw for his rivals in the $30,000 feature.
With Alchin holding the reins, Soho Gunslinger shot to the lead from barrier seven before blasting his opposition away with a 1:51.4 performance.
Set Up produced an eye-catching effort when four metres away second, with Down Ward Dog two-and-a-half metres behind in third.
"I'm very happy with his run," Alchin said. "He did it well within himself.
"That will see him out for the season...I'll send him to the paddock now.
"I'm not sure how long he will have off as I haven't got a precise plan set for him yet, so I'll just wait and see.
"The Four and Five-Year-Old Championship in Wagga is a suitable race and he may even go to Queensland in the Winter.
"I'm sure he has a good future, but he is quite a big horse and I'll let him tell us what he is ready for."
