Happy homecoming as drought broken

VETERAN horseman Greg Norman completed a happy homecoming last night.

Based in Victoria, Norman spent his formative years in South Australia, where he followed a family tradition into the industry.

Returning to the grassroots during the past couple of weeks, Norman ended his working holding by capturing the SA Trotters' Cup with Blue Coman.

By causing an upset in the feature, Blue Coman broke a 10-month drought from the winners' circle, with the gelding's previous triumph coming in the Elmore Trotters' Cup on December 22.

"It's been a while since he won a race, but he's run numerous placings and been very consistent," Norman said. "It was only a matter of time before he got another win on the board and he picked a great time to do it."

With Ryan Sanderson in the cart, Blue Coman was settled midfield from his 20-metre handicap as Get Lucky led from the pole.

Proving too slick during the latter stages, the flashy grey completed a metre-and-a-half win from Itz Trixton Time.

My Used To Be was a metre-and-a-half away third in 2:02 over 2645 metres.

"Like I said, he has been consistent and went well when third in his heat, so I thought he was over the odds at $16," Norman said.

"No matter what he paid, he got the win and it is always great to come home and have a bit of success at Globe Derby."
