IT'S easy to get the impression there are Weidenbachs everywhere in South Australia at the moment - particularly in the winners' circle.

In recent weeks, Victorian couple Rosie and Paul Weidenbach have cut a regular path to the 'number one stall' as trainers and owners at Globe Derby and Port Pirie.

Rosie, for example, has notched 10 wins as a trainer this season - seven in SA - including at Globe Derby today.

Paul has also won three SA races as a trainer and two as an owner.

Less than an hour before Rosie's triumph, Ben Weidenbach was relishing the taste of glory thanks to Beauty Above's drought-breaking victory.

There is a slight difference in that Ben is a local and not directly related to Rosie, being a distant cousin of Paul.

"We are related somewhere along the line," Ben said. "Paul's dad (Kevin) was my grandfather's brother, so my father's uncle.

"We're cousins a few times removed!

"About 20 years ago I did a stint in Kilomore with Paul and Rosie who taught me the ropes."

Returning to training "a couple of months ago", Ben registered his first win in 23 months when Beauty Above outclassed her rivals.

Driven by prominent horseman Mario Borg, Beauty Above worked to the lead from barrier four before striding to a soft 16-metre win from Lucky Bambino, with Uptown Miss two metres away third.

Rating 1:59.4 over 1800 metres, the daughter of Downbytheseaside provided Ben with his first victory since Hurricane Ed scored at the same venue in January 2024.

"I stopped training in February just after Ed won and only came back a couple of months ago," Ben said. "I love the sport and got back into it as soon as I could.

"I was only going to train this one, but one has turned into a small team."

Later on the card Ben's "small team" completed a double thanks to King Of Love.

With Gaita Pullicino in the cart, King Of Love led throughout to account for Buckles and Star Of Patrick in 2:02.4 over 2230 metres.

Although not related to Ben, Pullicino is Rosie's sister!

"That's my first double and I am over the moon," Ben said. "I've been training out of Mario's place, and although he's concentrating a lot on his stallions, he has been a huge help.

"I was reasonably confident with both of them today and to go home with a double is just a huge thrill."
