Hill not counting the chickens
AFTER dominating last Saturday night's Globe Derby meeting, champion reinswoman Dani Hill hopes to repeat the performance at the same venue today, but isn't prepared to "count the chickens".
Hill reminded all of her class with a superlative effort to win four of the seven races on the card.
Hill went close to a quintet, having only been beaten by a short half-head with So Vogue.
Successful in the opening event with Peace Of Heaven, Hill was then triumphant with Star Of Patrick, Hasty Bid and Miss Out.
South Australia's most successful reinswoman with 2477 wins, it is the 55th time Hill has registered a quartet at a meeting.
Only Victorian megastar Kerryn Manning has more quartets in Australia.
Hill has also nine quintets and five sextets to her credit - the latter being an Australian record!
"It was a good night," Hill said. "I knew I had a pretty good line up, but it doesn't always work out in racing.
"Even the couple I drove to run in the placings I felt had a winning chance if things went their way, but they didn't.
"That's how it is in racing and it will be the same today.
"I've got a busy day and a few strong chances, but I'm not counting the chickens just yet."
According to betting markets, Lucky Bambino in race four is Hill's best prospect of the afternoon.
With a win and three seconds from his last five starts, Lucky Bambino is a $1.45 hot shot with TAB Fixed Odds from barrier five.
The Ray Holberton-trained colt slots into four as a result of a scratching.
"Bambino is racing so well, but is drawn slightly awkwardly," Hill said. "He should still be too good, but in racing, you never get too confident."
