History-equaling effort required in title defense
LEAP TO FAME (T) GRANT DIXON (D) GRANT DIXON

CREATING history to capture last season's Miracle Mile, Leap To Fame will need to equal his record feat if he is to successfully defend his title at Club Menangle on Saturday night.

Capturing the 2024 edition in brilliant fashion, Leap To Fame became the first pacer drawn wider than barrier six to win the Grand Circuit gem since its inception in 1967.

Driven by trainer Grant Dixon, the son of Bettors Delight covered the 1609-metre trip in a slick 1:48.3 after beginning from gate seven.

To connections dismay, Leap To Fame received barrier eight during today's draw, but slots into seven with the removal of the emergency.

In response, TAB Fixed Odds have listed the stallion on the second line of betting at $2.70, with Don Hugo heading the market at $2.50.

Prepared by champion horseman Luke McCarthy, Don Hugo is expected to find the lead from barrier three.

Don Hugo earned his berth in the $1million Garrard's-sponsored event by securing last night's Cordina Chicken Farms Sprint in 1:48.8 after racing in the 'death seat'.

Just as he did in 2024, Leap To Fame booked his position in the southern hemisphere's premier sprint by securing the Newcastle Mile a fortnight ago.

Leap To Fame is attempting to join a select fraternity of Miracle Mile winners which have completed consecutive victories in Group One.

Westburn Grant was the ground breaker in 1989 and '90, with Chokin, Holmes D G, Sokyola, Be Good Johnny, Smoken Up and King Of Swing completing the 'Magnificent Seven'.

King Of Swing holds the distinction of being the only triple winner, having reigned supreme in 2020, '21 and '22.

Western Australian megastar Village Kid is the only other dual winner, having scored in 1986 and in 1987.

Village Kid finished third during the second Miracle Mile in 1986 won by Master Mood.
