Hoping for fairytale farewell

Hoping for fairytale farewell
finnis move

SATURDAY night's Globe Derby meeting will be the scene of 'sweet sorrow' emotions for the Finnis family.

Trainer Alyce and her reinsman-husband Jayson will tackle a Southern Cross Final in what will be their last appearance as locals at South Australia's home track.

Last August the Finnis' announced they had sold their Mount Gambier property and are moving to Queensland.

Along with their three children - Judd, Sadie and Tilly - and a team of 10 horses, the Finnis' will head to their new home in Lowood the following morning.

Lowood is located in the Somerset Region, west of Brisbane and a short trip north of Ipswich.

"It will be a case of parting is such sweet sorrow for us," Alyce said. "Jayson and I, then our children, were born and bred in Mount Gambier, so it's a big move.

"There will be sorrow in leaving so much behind, but the sweet in looking forward to the next chapter in our lives."

In what has the potential to be a fairytale farewell, the Finnis' have Always Dancing in the Final for three-year-old colts and geldings.

Successful in a series heat a fortnight ago, Always Dancing has drawn to lead from the pole.

Fellow heat winner, Zenario, has received gate three, but slots into two with the removal of the emergency.

"We couldn't be more confident with him going into this," Jayson said. "The horse is in perfect condition and we got the draw we wanted.

"He's got the speed to lead from there, so we'll be pushing forward.

"He certainly has every chance from there, now we will have to see how it unfolds on the night.

"Zenario won the other heat and he is clearly going to be tough to beat."
