ENCIPHER wins Eureka

ASTUTE trainer Tyson Linke is hoping for a sentimental win at Globe Derby tomorrow night when he contests the evening's feature - The Encipher - with handy filly, Quick Dip.

The sentimental part of the equation comes from the fact Linke-bred and owns Encipher, which had her career cut short by injury earlier this year.

Before tragedy struck, Encipher forged an impressive record of 18 wins and eight placings from 30 starts, with her victories including last season's inaugural $2.1million The Eureka at Club Menangle.

Prepared by Emma Stewart, Encipher was successful in four Group Ones and a pair of Group Twos on her way to earning $1,635,479 to become South Australia's richest standardbred!

Still in the care of Stewart, Encipher is booked to be served by Confederate.

"It's an honour to have a race named after her at our home track," Linke said. "With a bit of luck we can win the first running of it, but it won't be easy.

"It is only a small field, but there are some nice fillies in it and we have drawn terribly."

With the line-up cut back to five runners following a scratching, Quick Dip remains the widest drawn entrant from barrier five.

To be driven by top horseman Ryan Hryhorec, the daughter of Downbytheseaside is the $2.50 second elect, with Wings On The Line a $2 favourite.

One of two Aaron Bain three-year-olds in the event, Wings On The Line has drawn to search for the lead from gate three.

"Wings On The Line is certainly the one to beat," Linke said. "It's fair to say she has the superior record.

"We'll need a fair bit of luck, but if things work our way, Quick Dip is definitely capable."
