Hoping the highlights continue
SEASONED horseman Darren Billinger hopes his run of celebrations continues when he heads to Globe Derby tomorrow night.
During the past fortnight Billinger and his, Julie, have been sporting a constant smile thanks to a string of highlights.
The Billinger's run of good fortune includes part-owning Ichibansan, which won the Port August Thoroughbred Cup, their pacer Twin Connection breaking a drought from the winners' circle, and most importantly, becoming first-time grandparents.
The Billinger's daughter Jodie and her wife, Jaime, welcome a beautiful filly - Betty Mae - on July 4.
Twin Connection then followed up with another victory earlier this week!
"We've had a pretty amazing couple of weeks," Darren said. "Being grandparents is the clear top pick, but we've had a nice run with horses as well.
"Hopefully that can keep going tomorrow night.
"I've got Twin Connection in again and he is unbeaten since Betty Mae was born, so hopefully she's the good luck charm and we get a hat-trick.
"It's also my birthday on Sunday, so a win would be a nice way to work into that."
To be driven by Billinger, the son of Hes Watching has drawn to lead from barrier two.
Early markets have Twin Connection on the second line of betting at $3, with Cyclone Brenda the $2.80 favourite from gate three.
"We'll be going forward in hope he can lead and hold up," Billinger said. "There are some handy types, and a bit of form in the race, so it won't be easy, but I give him a strong chance."
