Huge convoy heading to semis
IF YOUR driving towards Melton via the Ballarat route on tomorrow night keep an eye out for a convey of standardbreds.
With a massive team engaged at Victoria’s premier track, record-breaking horsewoman Emma Stewart has a logistical nightmare transporting her runners to the venue.
Stewart has 39 entrants ready to contest 11 Vicbred Super Series semi-finals, meaning she will require three trucks and a pair of large floats to make her way from the stable to the track.
“It’s a huge team to be taking to the races,” Stewart said. “It’ll mean all hands on deck as we’re in for a busy night.
“Hopefully we will be coming home with a truck load of winners.”
Stewart’s assault stems from her dominance during the two, three and four-year-old heats, which saw the leading trainer secure 15 of the 21 qualifiers.
Stewart’s haul includes an incredible clean sweep of the eight three-year-old heats!
As such, Stewart will be represented by 10 favourites and a second favourite.
Fox Dan in a two-year-old colts' and geldings' semi and Sweet Bella in a four-year-old mares' semi are the shortest priced runners at $1.30 with TAB Fixed Odds.
The Lost Storm is the 'long shot' favourite at $3 in his semi for four-year-old entires and geldings.
Undefeated from three starts, Fox Dan is destined to be pushed forward in search for the lead from barrier five, while Sweet Bella is also drawn to make a bid for the front from gate two.
Winner of the Vicbred Final at two before missing last season's edition due to his commitments in The Eureka at Club Menangle, The Lost Storm will also begin from barrier two.
In what shapes as a hectic night for the stable, Stewart will have five runners in action at Club Menangle, including three in the $2.1million The Eureka.
Capturing last season's inaugural edition of the slot race with Encipher, Stewart will be represented by Bay Of Biscay, Major Delight and High Above, which have drawn two, three and nine.
