DALTON

"I'M having a crack and that's all I can do!"

That's the philosophy Peter Mudge is taking into tomorrow night's Emerging Stars Final at Globe Derby.

Mudge will be represented in the trotters' division by consistent performer Dalton, which has drawn perfectly in the pole.

Despite his solid form, including a second in a series heat, and favourable starting position, Dalton is among the outsiders at $34.

Saint Sebastian heads the market at $1.80 from barrier five.

"I'm having a crack and that's all I can do!" Mudge declared. "I have even been giving him three or four extra pats at night and telling him he is a good boy to get him feeling good about himself.

"I give him a chance but they don't with the odds...it's a good thing he can't read.

"He is going pretty good, very consistent, and has got to be in the mix...at least I would like to think so."

Citing Saint Sebastian as the one to beat, Mudge rates Bishop George highly despite his back row draw.

"Sam (Hill) has Saint Sebastian going terrifically," Mudge said. "He deserves to be the favourite, but is a bit short in my opinion.

"Bishop George is pretty smart. His draw isn't the best, but as long as he gets a clear run, he will be right in it."
