Impossible task now within reach
THREE weeks ago it seemed a 'mission impossible', but now the task appears to be within reach.
Following a dominating performance at Globe Derby on November 24 where he prepared five winners on the 10-race card, Ryan Hryhorec's training tally sat on 129 wins for the season.
With only 12 local meetings remaining before the end of the year, Hryhorec decided to channel his inner Ethan Hunt during the next five weeks to reach 150 wins in a season.
Thrilled with the success his stable has enjoyed, Hryhorec revealed his original goal for the term was 102, having registered a personal best 101 in 2023.
"At the start of the year I thought it would be good to simply go one better than my previous best," Hryhorec said. "To get to 130 wins is a massive result and I couldn't be prouder of the team.
"Moving the goalpost to 150 was pretty much impossible given there was only five weeks to go, but I've had a crack."
Hryhorec's 'crack' has seen his tally move to 143 - meaning 150 is well within reach.
Fast forward to Saturday night's Globe Derby meeting and Hryhorec appears to have at least one win all but secured.
Barring an act of God, unbeaten freshman Ideology should have no trouble maintaining his perfect record in the opening event on the card - Southern Cross Final for two-year-old trotters.
Ideology has won both starts in eye-catching fashion, including his latest outing when he worked overtime in the 'death seat'.
Hryhorec also has runners in the Southern Cross Final for three-year-old fillies and the Southern Cross Final for three-year-old trotters.
Away from home, Hryhorec has Sunstar among the favourites in a race in Melton.
"Ideology is my best chance for the night," Hryhorec said. "Ten Eagles is in the mix in the other Trot Final, but the fillies will need a lot of luck.
"If we can come home with a win or two I'll be very happy."
HOONOTE: With 180 placings also to his credit, Hryhorec's team has finished in the top three at a strike rate of 55.8 per cent.
Hryhorec's strike rate is actually weakened by often having multiple runners in a race!
