Impressive debut against older rivals
BEGINNING her career in perfect fashion Centrefold Star will be given a short campaign before a brief freshen-up.
Making her debut at Globe Derby yesterday, Centrefold Star gave notice of better things to come with a dominating victory against older opposition for astute horseman Bronte Giorgio.
Naturally impressed with the two-year-old, Giorgio plans to give Centrefold Star "another couple of starts" before a short break.
The daughter of Poster Boy will then be primed for the Southern Cross series in November.
"She has been a nice filly all along and I was very happy with her first start," Giorgio said. "She has taken every step with ease and really gives the impression she can develop into a very nice type.
"I'll give her another couple of starts then a week off before we get going again for the Southern Cross.
"That's still three months away, so there is plenty of time."
Driven by Michael Smith, Centrefold Star was settled in the perfect one-one position from barrier seven as Rickshawshadow led from gate three.
Dashing to the front leaving the back straight, Centrefold Star cruised to a 20-metre win from Rickshawshadow.
Stars Legacy was six metres away third as the winner rated 1:59.7 over 1800 metres.
"It was a terrific run from her," Giorgio said. "She did everything right and won with plenty up her sleeve.
"The way she responded when sent forward was good to see and she did it quite comfortably."
