Interstate trip for exciting trotter
A TRIP across the border has been earmarked for exciting trotter Reoffender.
Co-trainer Jill Neilson expressed a desire to head interstate with the two-year-old in a bid to secure his Vicbred bonus before the end of the season.
First Reoffender will be aimed at the Southern Cross series, which concludes with a Final at Globe Derby on November 30.
"We really want to find a race for him to try and get his Vicbred bonus, so that is on the cards, but the Southern Cross comes first," Neilson said. "Whether there are heats for that or straight into the Final we don't know at this stage, but it's where he is heading.
"As long as everything is going well after the Southern Cross we will head over the border and do our best to get that bonus before it goes down next year."
Boasting an impressive record of three wins and a second from four starts, Reoffender produced possibly the performance of the South Australian season to capture the Parker Classic last Saturday night.
Beginning safely from the tapes, Reoffender broke stride around the first turn, which saw the son of Aldebaran Eagle settle a conservative 70 metres from the leader, Sunny Majesty.
"Wayne (Hill, driver) said it wasn't completely the horse's fault as the track is still so loose that his sulky was sliding around the turn and he just lost his footing as a result," Neilson said.
"At that point, given he was so far off the field, I thought the race was over, but when he got back off the track, Wayne said he still felt confident he would reel them in."
Reel them in is precisely what Reoffender did as he completed a metre-and-a-half win from Sunny Majesty, with Feel The Moment 16-and-a-half metres away third.
"It was an unbelievable run," Neilson said. "To do what he did was just amazing.
"He is clearly the best young trotter I have ever trained and hopefully he will continue to improve with age and experience."
Co-trained by Katie Wilson, Reoffender rated 2:05.9 over 1800 metres.
