Is this Australia's most travelled pacer?
ARGUABLY Australia's most travelled pacer, Springfield Affair, will undertake another long road trip this weekend.
With trainer Kevin Von Duve located in South Australia's remote south east town of Glencoe, Springfield Affair spends hours in a float each time he competes.
For example, it is a 10-hour return drive to race at Globe Derby, while Springfield Affair's recent Port Pirie Cup win required a 1300-kilometre round trip.
Springfield Affair has also competed in Kapunda - 10-and-a-half hours - and Gawler, which is a nine-and-a-half hour adventure.
For his last 10 starts, the son of Shadow Play has travelled roughly 8100 kilometres!
"He just about spends more time in the float than he does in his paddock," Von Duve said. "That's one of the downsides of living so far from the action.
"To be honest though, I enjoy the drive and it makes for a day out."
Springfield Affair's latest trek will see him head to Ouyen for Sunday's Cup, where he has drawn barrier nine
"Ouyen, which is about five hours away and will be a pitstop for a much longer drive," Von Duve said. "After the Cup we will push on to Albury, which is another five-and-a-half hours, for the night.
"Then the next morning we'll head to Peter Rixon place in Pheasant Nest which is another five hours.
"He is racing the best he has ever gone, so I figured I might as well take him to Peter Rixon to race at Menangle and give it a go."
