IN PART two of this special feature, we spotlight yearlings from vendors offering just one horse at the APG Ipswich Sale.
Lot 133 - This filly by boom sire Captain Crunch from tough race mare Saucy Dreams (1.51.4, $150K) is from an exceptional filly family.
Her dam won 20 races on Victorian, NSW and Queensland tracks.
Her grandam Karamea Dreamin produced five filly winners, including Zibibo (1.52.9, $115K), Mahia Dreamin (1.57.9, $65K) and Vicbred final placegetter Miss Dreamin (1.54.3, $53K).
Zibibo’s first live foal was NSW Two-Year-Old Fillies Breeders' Challenge (G1) winner Saveeon (1.52.8, $174K), who won six races at two.
Other top filly winners include Newcastle Oaks winner Im Tondelayo (1.52.4, $116K), Tasmania Oaks runner-up Chedalayo (1.58.2, $65K) and fourth dam Karamea Minna, who won multiple cups in the 1970s.
Captain Crunch has had an amazing first season in Australia, producing 21 two-year-old winners – 11 of them fillies.
Five of his top seven earners are fillies, including five-time winner and WA Golden Slipper placegetter Captainshavtime (1.57.2, $68K).
Lot 135 - A filly by Huntsville from Group One winning two-year-old Secret Desire (1.59.5, $88K).
Secret Desire was an outstanding juvenile, winning four races including the Group One Vicbred Fillies Final.
She looked set for an exciting three-year-old season but her campaign was cut short by injury after only one start.
She has already produced two filly winners, Orama (1.57.9, $85K) a winner of 12 races and Ideal Desire (1.55.1, $36K) who had her first two starts as a two-year-old last season.
Secret Desire is a half sister to the dams of Zuberi (1.54, $145K) and tough mare Nor Westa (1.53.7, $167K), who won 21 races.
This is the family of Victoria Ladyship Cup winner Nolamara (1.56.8, $221K) who was voted 2003 Australian aged mare of the year in 2003.
The cross of Huntsville over a Real Desire mare has already produced Vicbred Two-Year-Old Fillies' Silver final winner The Huntress (1.56.8, $105K), who won six races as a two and three-year-old.
Lot 139 - This filly is by boom sire Sweet Lou from smart race mare Shandance (1.53.1, $72K), who has produced promising two-year-old Art Ideal, who won his only start in 1.55.9 last season.
Shandance is bred “in the purple” being by Art Major from Bettors Delight mare Delightful Dale.
She is a sister to the ill-fated Shandale (1.51.8, $305K) which won the JP Stratton Cup and was placed in a heat of the Inter Dominion before a race accident cut short his career.
Delightful Dale also produced outstanding open class mare Illavabubbles (1.49.8, $223K).
Fourth dam Megaera (1.56.8, $250K) won five races as a two-year-old and was named NZ Two-Year-Old Filly of the Year in 1996.
This cross, Sweet Lou over an Art Major mare, has produced 29 winners in Australia, including Spirit Of St Louis (1.48.2, $1.4mil). Eleven of those winners were fillies.
Sweet Lou has produced a host of top flight mares. His top earner is multiple Group One winner Steno (1.51.9, $483K), star filly Water Lou (1.55.2, $422K) and Eureka finalist Eye Keep Smiling (1.49.9, $400K).
Lot 140 - A colt by Auckland Cup winner Vincent from four-time winner Travelnfast (2.00.5, $20K), who has produced two winners from her first two foals – both two-year-old winners.
She is the dam of Yogi (1.59, $42K) who has won five races as a two and three-year-old and Travelnfeeling (2.00.9, $4K), which won second-up as a two-year-old in 2024.
This colt has a double cross of Jate Lobell stallion Safely Kept, who has gained an incredible reputation as a broodmare sire.
Safely Kept is the dam sire of Vincent and Travelnfast.
His daughters have produced also 1000 winners of $58million in stakes, including Smolda (1.50.6, $2.4mil) Caribbean Blaster (1.52.6, $1.1mil) and 2024 Trotting Interdominion hero The Locomotive.
This colt’s grandam, Safe Adieu, was a six-time winner and has 100 per cent record as a broodmare, producing four winners from her first four foals.
Lot 143 - A colt by leading US sire Downbytheseaside from Group Two winner Awesome Belmer (1.54.4, $174K).
Awesome Belmer was a quality race mare, winning 16 races from two through to aged in good company.
She won on debut as a two-year-old and finished seventh in the Bathurst Gold Tiara Final. In all, she had a win, five seconds and three fourths in 12 juvenile runs, which included an unplaced finish in the NSW Breeders' Challenge Final.
She won the NSW Breeders' Challenge Regional Final for four-year-old mares, the Group Two Sibelia Stakes and the JD Watts Memorial.
She is the dam of two winners, including handy mare London Legs (1.57.6, $66K), which finished her two-year-old season with three wins and notched five wins at three.
This is the family of WA APG sales classic winner Talks Up A Storm (1.54.4, $331K) and NSW Gold Nugget winner Mister Skye Rocket (1.56.1, $268K).
