Just Believe joins elite group of Inter winners
EMERGING as the toast of the industry thanks to his success at Tabcorp Park Melton moments ago, Just Believe has joined a select group of squaregaiters.
By capturing the Inter Dominion Trotters' Final Just Believe became only the 13th winner to complete a clean sweep of the Championship since its inception in 1948.
With the conditions of the series changing multiple times, Just Believe is one of only three to remain undefeated after three qualifying rounds and a Final.
The other 10 unbeaten stars only contested two heats and Final.
In 2003 Take A Moment was triumphant in a 'true' Inter Dominion of four runs in a fortnight as was Tornado Valley in 2018.
Opening his account in Ballarat two weeks ago, Just Believe was then too good in Shepparton and Geelong to be the only runner heading into the $250,000 decider without experiencing defeat during the tournament.
Driven to perfection by Greg Sugars, Just Believe was given time to settle into his stride from the second row before being sent forward to test the leader, Majestuoso, from the 'death seat'.
Reaching the front in the shadows of the post, the son of Orlando Vici scored by a half-neck from Majestuoso.
Queen Elida was two metres away third.
"What a run, what a horse," Sugars said. "He won the heats by leading and there was some thought that he couldn't do it again without finding the front.
"He showed tonight how versatile and tough he is."
Rating 1:59.1 over 2760 metres, Just Believe took his record to seven wins and three seconds since being trained by Sugars' wife, Jess Tubbs.
